Grampians Information

Southern Grampians
May 17th to 24th  2026

Just imagine 6 full days painting or sketching below the rugged cliffs, on the slopes and lush pasture around the Southern Grampians. Absorb the raw energy and weathered beauty up close. Don't paint from the experience of others. Make it yours.
Your tour leaders both have a lifetime of artistic knowledge and success to share and guide you seeing and expressing your impressions of the Grampians.
We encourage small groups, where painting skills can develop and friendships are easy when working with people with similar interests.
This is a self drive workshop tour and it often becomes natural for artists to decide among themselves to share the ride.
Activities.  We have chosen the Grampians Motel, 3 star, cosy, accommodation on 12 acres with the mountains rising around us. There will be opportunities to paint on site as well as capture sketches and/or drawings of the wildlife especially the Cockatoos and Kangaroos who seem to be permanent visitors.
There is so much to see and the sunshine, mist or stunning sky backdrops to the mountains will stir the artist within.

Tuition. You will be free to use the medium of your choice and are welcome in any/all watercolour, pastel or acrylic demonstration or discussion groups. We will also recommend a travel diary for shorter studies. The Grampian areas have many guises. We are visiting different spots to celebrate the many faces of the areas. It's much more than rugged, rocky cliffs. We have six days to capture our impressions. It is a self drive workshop and we have chosen a variety of suitable painting sites. It is important that you are able to carry your own 'gear' and are able to walk a short track if needed. (We won't be going on any challenging hikes!)  Both Julie and Lyn will be guiding you to use the 'reality' of 'being there' to bring your artwork towards the experience that you show with your art. Assessment of our work is part of the personal decision making progress so will be part of the painting progress. Our group 'art show ' towards the end will be a chance to celebrate our journey and maybe see our results.

Weather. It is still Autumn and we expect sunshine but weather can sometimes offer varying moods. As artists we will be ready to capture whatever 'mood' the mountains present. We will teach you ways to be flexible, capture the day's energy and we have covered areas to finish the concept together, back at home base.

Comfort and Planning. When you arrive we will gather at 5pm to welcome you all, finalise activities planned, and allow you to settle into your rooms ready to start next morning.
We are less than 5 minutes drive from Halls Gap township which has several recommended food/restaurant options for your choice.
We are aware that some people have special dietary considerations and know it is preferable to allow everyone to plan their own needs.
Back at the Grampians Motel base there are free BBQ facilities, tea and coffee and sml refrigerator in rooms. and the Motel does offer a continental breakfast ($) in the dining room each morning.
Sunset, evening gatherings will be a relaxing end to the day, share our experiences and confirm the plan for the next day.

Please note that we would love to treat you all to a celebration dinner to end our paintaway. (Let's talk if you have individual needs.)

Fee:- Full cost $2160
You must pay a $260 p.p. deposit to secure your spot.
This deposit is non refundable but it may be transferred towards any PDU workshop within two years.
The balance must be paid by March 6th 2026.
You will notice that the deposit secures your spot and there is an option to pay the balance in two $950 instalments.

Some artists have wished to travel in 'vans so do not need to pay our accommodation part of the Fee.
It is important that they choose to stay close to our accommodation and Halls Gap but will need to arrange their own site.
To join us the Workshop Fee Only is $1150 which includes all daily activities and the farewell dinner.

Please note that we understand that 'life happens'. If you need to cancel before March 10th your fees will be refunded. After that day we cannot refund the full due amount unless we are able to fill your booking.
So we always recommend that you take out travel insurance.
